Quick January Update
about 1 year ago – Fri, Jan 27, 2023 at 08:16:20 AM

Hey folks,

Layout work on Once More Into the Void is proceeding apace. Rae is working hard on revising the layout I sent him a month ago and we are currently targeting completion of that a few weeks from now. Christopher will be doing a proofreading pass after than, and then I will do the remaining layout work. We hope to get the finalized PDF version out in a couple months and then get the copies printed.

Thanks for your patience!

Draft layout complete!
over 1 year ago – Thu, Dec 22, 2022 at 09:59:38 PM

Hello everyone!

Since many of you are celebrating seasonal holidays in the coming days, I thought you might want a quick status update on where Once More Into the Void currently stands. I just finished the first draft version of the layout for the book which has come to approximately 150 pages worth of content.  It's currently missing the legalese in the front matter, table of contents, cross-references and the index, but all the important words are on the page.  From here, Rae will be making some adjustments to improve the layout and ensure it meets his vision.  Christopher will do a proof-reading pass next and then I will implement all of the necessary corrections to finalize things. While we hoped to get a complete PDF by the end of December it seems likely that it will be in your inbox early 2023 instead.

Here is a screenshot from the layout program so you can see what the layout is looking like so far!

November Update - Layout Continues
over 1 year ago – Mon, Nov 21, 2022 at 05:22:15 AM

Hey folks,

We just have a quick update for you, as we are hard at work on the layout side of things. It's taken a bit of time to settle on all of the relevant master page styles, typefaces, grids, and the like but so far it's looking pretty spiffy if I do say so myself. Once I pull together a complete draft of the layout, Rae will revise it and work with Christopher to do the final proof-reading. We are eager to get the PDF in your hand and start turning our minds towards printing this beauty.

Sorry for the delays so far and we hope that it will be worth the wait. Talk you soon!

October Update - Layout Galore
over 1 year ago – Fri, Oct 14, 2022 at 04:00:08 PM

Hello Folks,

Thank you very much for your collective patience since our last update at the end of August. Rae’s medical issues have continued to interfere with his layout work and I will be helping him out as he recovers. This means that I have had the honour of digging into his layout files and looking at some of his lovely work already.  Every layout pro has their own techniques and l have learned a lot just by looking at the draft he had prepared.  Hopefully, I will get the bulk of this work done while Rae recovers and he can do the final polishing work before proofreading.

A sample layout spread with two science fiction figures holding eachother tenderly on the page on the right.
A sample spread from Rae's existing layout, showing off a mini-game of intimacy
A mockup spread with no images in it, with the title that reads "A Galaxy in Peril"
A mockup spread that Jason produced as part of the handover process.

A sample layout spread with a border illustration consisting of a space illustration
An alternative spread Jason produced with a more complex background

On the publishing side of the house, the layout will give us a much more accurate page count for the book which is vital for efficient print buying. That is the step in the process where I reach out to a dozen different book printers to find the right combination of quality, speed, price, location, and business practices for this project. Given the absurd levels of inflation and shipping challenges, we want to get this locked down asap, so we are extra motivated to move this project along.

Thank you again for being so awesome and we hope to report on more progress in the next update!

OMITV Update : Medical Challenges
over 1 year ago – Thu, Sep 01, 2022 at 02:22:17 AM

Hey folks!

Rae and I have been working hard on the book with some beautiful layout work underway. You can see an example spread of the layout and get a good sense of what the visual look will be for the product when it's ready.

Unfortunately, we have recently run into a bit of a setback and we wanted to keep all of you apprised.  Rae suffered a couple of seizures last week and another one yesterday which has derailed our publication timeline somewhat. He will be meeting with specialists this weekend and hopefully, it won't be anything serious, but I want to make sure that he has all the time he needs to recover.  We are also exploring a few options to lighten his load and keep the publication process moving since we are all eager to get this book in your hands!

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Cheers!
