Latest Updates from Our Project:

End of July Update
over 1 year ago – Sat, Jul 30, 2022 at 04:31:25 AM

Hey Crew,

We are slowly and steadily getting progress on Once More Into the Void.  I completed a developmental editing pass on the manuscript to help identify opportunities to clarify the text, while Rae continues to prepare the draft layout templates. I will be providing some feedback on the templates, then Rae will start the proper layout process.

As soon as we have the layout templates, Rae will be able to provide the final page count for the printed book and I will be able to secure print quotes. Based on the current dysfunctional state of the printing industry, we might wind up printing in Canada where the paper supplies are a bit less constrained. We shall see how that works out though.

Cheers!

June 2022 Update
almost 2 years ago – Tue, Jun 21, 2022 at 03:48:37 AM

Hey Crew,

We are seeing some significant progress on Once More Into the Void. Rae, Christopher, and I had a very productive call yesterday over the edited text. We talked through some of the more technical editing issues such as capitalization of particular game terms or certain word choices. After that point, Rae and I did a dig dive into the layout principles underlying the book's design. Rae is preparing the layout templates and expects to be able to pull it together relatively quickly with all of the art currently in our hands.

Once Rae finishes the layout pass we will be able to do a final proofreading of the book prior to sending out all the PDFs. We will then be able to proceed with the print buying process.  In the context of the paper shortage in the USA, it's looking increasingly likely that the book will be printed in Canada instead.

I will be out of the proverbial office for the next month for personal reasons, but I will give you another status update upon my return.

Cheers!

April Update - Now with Story!
about 2 years ago – Tue, Apr 05, 2022 at 12:58:01 AM

Hey folks!

We have been getting a lot of progress since the last update and I wanted to share a few goodies.

WRITING

Rae has just finished writing the vast majority of the additional story content for the game, bringing the current total wordcount up to 25K. There's some additional content for telling healthy stories including cultural realities, sexuality, safety tools, and more that he is currently finishing up and we expect that this will probably clock in just under 30K. This is a considerable upgrade compared to the original 12K game on Itch, and we are excited to get this to you. Here's a lovely sample of the new content.

-----------------------------------

Ship Rooms

When you need to create a room for a scene, choose one:

  • Captain’s room, with a view of the stars and a fish tank that takes up one wall
  • Medbay, recently upgraded with experimental tech and a chatty AI
  • War Room, abandoned and important data screens covered in dust
Armory, with work benches that encourage outrageous experimentation
Gunnery, housing the ship’s defenses that need constant calibration
  • Bar, with drinks deemed unfit for organic consumption in several star systems
  • Kitchen, filled to the brim with barely edible nutrient packs
  • Recreation Rooms, with a full VR unit installed
  • Pod Garden, a newly discovered fungal people has made this their home
  • Mech Hanger, with a machinery in dire need of repairs

-----------------------------------

The Personal Touch

To bring a personal aspect of your character to the ship, answer at least one of the questions connected to your character.

The Captain

  • In what unlikely way did you come to own this ship?
  • What evidence of the past did you try to remove from the ship?
  • Who did you name the ship after?

The Veteran

  • What evidence of your glory days is housed in the ship?
  • What did you install in the ship to protect the Captain’s reputation?
  • What old part of the ship can’t you bear to repair or part with?

The Reformed

  • What part of the ship is still off-limits to you?
  • What part of the ship did you use to lure your former comrades to their deaths?
  • What secret sacrifice did you make in the past to protect the ship?

-----------------------------------

Planets

When you need a planet to feature in your game, choose one from below or use it as inspiration.

BATHALA

Shattered moons gleam in faded starlight, a raging storm that will never die, far off lights that hint at a hidden civilization.

The evidence shows that several forms of life and civilizations trace back their origins to what remains of this ravaged planet. No one agrees what destroyed most of it, or what holds it together. Several unexplained anomalies exist, defying science and embodying mystery. Smugglers and pirates use some of the more stable moon debris for their base of operations and vaults.

One of you gained an unexpected reputation with one of the local pirates. What do they call you and why do you avoid them?

LACAPATI

Fields of endless bounty, bleeding edge terraforming technology, ancient alien structures from millenia ago

Abundance flows from Lacapati, a planet that boasts of generations spent perfecting agricultural technologies. But much of Lacapati’s knowledge is built from an unknown source, technology scavenged and found from an alien civilization long gone. Much of this ancient wisdom can only be perceived as magic, so far beyond our comprehension of the world and its laws as it is.

One of you was essential in unlocking an ancient secret, who did you have to betray to do so?

LAHO

A planet covered almost entirely by neon oceans, city towers and immense structures spiral downwards to the depths, strange lights dance in the skies above.

The many people of Laho have lived for centuries, the healing waters of their world offer miraculous healings and visions of possible futures. Many of Laho are naturally psychic, but straying far from the oceans results in painful psychic flashes almost too terrible to bear. The pain comes with visions showing a past that contradicts the history of the galaxy.

One of you has never set foot near the waters of Laho, but you feature prominently in the psychic visions of its people. What disturbing prophecies center around you and your future actions?

-----------------------------------

Locations

When you need a location to feature in your game, choose one from below or use it as inspiration.

Recksa’s Maw

Faded tapestries, trophies from successful bounties, training grounds that have seen better days.

An asteroid belt that houses several mercenary crews, all serving an alliance that benefits all. The Maw is often used as a neutral meeting place for delicate negotiations. Rumors suggest that one person pulls all the strings from the shadows, but their identity remains a mystery.

You once served in a mercenary crew, what scars do you have from that time?

Dream Den

Sacred incense, faithful attendants covered in green veils, a view of endless sand.

The Dream Den offers a wide range of intoxicants, many of which are carefully constructed for an individual’s unique chemistry and preference. There is an atmosphere of the divine here, and many have claimed to have met physical avatars of long-dead gods from different star systems.

You met an unlikely god, out in the sands of the Dream Den. What did they take from you, and what did you receive in return?

Captain Retrieval

Editing

Christopher has finished his first editing pass of the core text, which has been sent off to Rae for implementation. He is now moving onto editing the new text that Rae had produced and things are well on track. Once the full text is complete and the first edit pass is complete, we will do another comprehensive review pass before sending this off to layout.

Thanks for your patience and I hope this is worth the wait!
